1. General Information
Channel Four Television Corporation and 4 Ventures Limited (together “Channel 4") own and are responsible for the 4IP.org.uk website (and any related or superseding domain names) (the “Site”).
This Privacy Policy (together with our Terms and Conditions and any other documents referred to in it) sets out the basis on which any personal data we collect from you, or that you provide to us, will be processed by us.
2. Privacy Statement
Channel 4 will use any personal information collected from the Site in accordance with all laws and regulations relating to the protection of personal data including the Data Protection Act 1998 (the “Data Protection Act"). 3. What information do we collect?
We may collect and process the following data about you:
3.1 Information that you provide by registering or filling in forms on the Site such as email addresses, contact details and/or other details. This includes information provided at the time of registering to use our Site, subscribing to receive email updates, posting material or requesting further services. We may also ask you for information when you submit a proposal, enter a competition or when you report a problem with the Site.
3.2 If you contact us, we may keep a record of that correspondence.
3.3 We may also ask you to complete surveys that we use for research purposes, although you do not have to respond to them.

This is statistical data about our users’ browsing actions and patterns, and does not identify any individual.
3.5 For the same reason, we may obtain information about your general internet usage by using a cookie file which is stored on the hard drive of your computer. Cookies contain information that is transferred to your computer’s hard drive. They help us to improve the Site and to deliver a better and more personalised service.
If the Site contains advertising and sponsorship, Channel 4 may use a third party to deal with advertisements on the Site. 4. Where we store your personal data
The data that we collect from you may be transferred to, and stored at, a destination outside the European Economic Area ("EEA"). If you do not want us to use your data in this way, or to pass your details to third parties for marketing purposes, please do not tick the relevant box on the form on which we collect your data.
We do not disclose information about identifiable individuals to our advertisers, but we may provide them with aggregate information about our users (for example, we may inform them that 500 men aged under 30 have clicked on their advertisement on any given day). We may also use such aggregate information to help advertisers reach the kind of audience they want to target (for example, women in Yorkshire). We may make use of the personal data we have collected from you to enable us to comply with our advertisers’ wishes by displaying their advertisement to that target audience.

7. Your rights
You have the right to ask us not to process your personal data for marketing purposes. We will ask you (before collecting your data) if we can use your data for such purposes or if we can disclose your information to any third party for such purposes. You can exercise your right to prevent such processing by NOT checking certain boxes on the forms we use to collect your data. Users are reminded that any commenting functionality on the Site and areas of the Site that allow you to submit content for publication on the Site (but not proposal submissions which will not be available to the public) or set up a profile on the Site are for public viewing and discussion. Any personal information supplied by users here is widely accessible. Channel 4 is not responsible for the content posted by users of these services.

This website contains links to other sites that are completely unrelated to Channel 4. This Privacy Policy does not apply to these sites nor are we responsible for the content and practices of these websites.
