School of Everything launches Marketplace tool and makes 4iP proud

Last week saw the unveiling of an important piece of functionality for one of 4iP’s portfolio companies, School of Everything.  The team launched the School of Everything Marketplace last Friday which provides both students and teachers with the ability to pay for lessons through the site.

School of Everything is a platform for informal learning and harnesses the transparency of the internet to help those with something to teach find those who want to learn and vice versa.  Subjects include the usual suspects like yoga, driving and musical instruments but you’ll also find teachers offering face painting and body art, business development and juggling lessons.

Now, with payment functionality the site offers even more benefits to both its user groups.  Students can pay for lessons in advance in the knowledge that their payment is secure and their lesson guaranteed whilst teachers avoid the hassle of cash and cheque payments and get comfort that their students are less likely to cancel.

Not only does this make the site even more indispensable for its loyal users but importantly it provides a revenue stream for the business which takes a small fee for transactions placed through the site.

4iP has always included the sustainability of an idea in its submission guidelines since its an extremely important criteria for our investments.  Generating revenues is a vital means for the vast majority of web and mobile businesses to secure their future and ongoing success.  What’s more, in the current climate, business models that focus on transactional revenues rather than advertising are likely to prove much more attractive to investors.  Here at 4iP we’re extremely keen to see ideas submitted with new and innovative business models - thinking about who your users are and what provides value to them are great places to start when generating transaction based ideas.

Here at 4iP we wish the School of Everything team all the best with the new functionality and look forward to announcing future site developments in the near future.

Well, lots of teachers are using us as a handy way to make a quick website - a bit like the way musicians use MySpace. We get plenty of visits from someone who’s looking up a particular teacher, and have spotted them on School of Everything.

Underclassmen are a lot more fixated on their social life, but the seniors I know are most concerned about college and their educational abilities, not popularity. At that point it’s more about how well you may be doing in school, because by then they’ve realized how important it is. Of course, there are some who do not follow this trend, but these people don’t generally succeed…

It’s great to hear your success story. All of us has our own itinerary. Never touch chintzy to the others, since we acquire our own noesis. Your sis might be great, but you do bed your own strength. Centering on that and you leave be prospering.

Teaching over the internet has got to be one of the greatest things to come from the web.  It is still in very early stages and has actually progressed really slow but there is enormous room for development of online learning and teaching. I recently did some Chinese lessons through skype. I think they were better than I could have received in person. I had a professional teacher from Beijing teaching me and lessons were far cheaper than if I were to hire a local tutor.

This is a wonderful idea. I was talking the other day with my sister, a teacher, about this… kind of. She is on Twitter and offers homework help to her students on just about any evening! I thought there should be a way to offer small chunks of paid tutoring online in real time.

The Marketplace is a safe and secure tool that helps organise education in a way that suits you. It’s where you manage payments you receive for your services and any payments you make through School of Everything.

School of Everything is only a marketplace for ‘educational services’. If you sell anything else, you’re violating our Terms and Conditions. You can’t currently sell educational goods and products yet either, but we’ll be hoping to add that soon.
