People always appreciate homemade gifts over bought ones, and treasured more because of the effort involved. My mother has always been crafty, and has an eye for looking at things and figuring out how to make a similar one. She has made beautiful wreaths, topiary trees, pot warmers, candles, baked goods in a designed “elf basket” or “tuxedo box”, place-mats, etc.
