Great Minds Think Differently
Reflecting 4iP’s commitment to partnership, we want to involve experts with a wide range of relevant experience to help us shape the 4iP pilot. We are therefore announcing the 4iP ThinkTank.
The ThinkTank will comprise a range of people from various backgrounds and with particular areas of expertise and experience related to the 4iP project. These could include finance and venture capital, new media start-ups, social entrepreneurship, technology and platform innovation, and experience of working with public finance partners. We also hope it will include people who are inspired by what we’re setting out to do: creating new and sustainable ways of delivering public service media for a post-broadcast world.
The objective of the ThinkTank is to provide expertise and insight into the projects that 4iP is backing and to help share the lessons we learn with a wider audience. (Its role will not be to decide which projects we back, or how they are funded.)
If you feel you have the experience, expertise and drive to contribute and would like to be considered as a member of the 4iP ThinkTank, please email, in the first instance, up to 200 words capturing why you are interested and what you’d be bringing to the project to:

After a 17 year career in the British Army specialising in communications, IT and GPS systems, I joined RR Donnelly & Sons in 1990 where I was involved in business development/sales work with companies such as MOTOROLA MOBILE PHONES, Sun, Avery and IBM.
In 2000 I moved to Energis Squared, the technology innovation centre for the Energis Group to head up their APPLICATION SOFTWARE PROVISION programme where I was responsible for refocusing the emphasis of the 7 million pound programme/project to the development of wireless/mobile phone applications and streaming video for the BLUE CHIP market. During this time I did some substantial work with ORANGE developing applications and video to mobile phones across HSCSD and later GPRS. My interest and PERSONAL belief in a great future for video across the internet and to mobile phones led me to leave IT and setup with my wife “NFD Productions” to further explore mobile video amongst other innovative ideas that would not be possible working within a corporate environment due to it’s restrictive permission for everything based environment.
I have a great deal of experience in video to mobile devices coupled with extensive REAL WORLD corporate experience which I believe could significantly add value to 4IP.

Hi. I work as part of the Engine Group—a marcomms group with around 600 brands in its portfolio. I look after media consultancy and branded entertainment. Before that I worked at 3 to help the company become a media player as well as a telecoms company. Before that I was an exec at Endemol running the digital media production teams for broadcast. Before that I’ve been a print journalist, editor, producer, social worker, musician, and economist.
I have a working knowledge of print, TV, online, mobile, music, film, and advertising. I’ve a lot of experience across multiple media fields and can bring that nouse into creating workable new business models.

Hi, I’m a director of Pangaea Television based in the Southwest of England. Pangaea is an innovative production company - exploring new media on a daily basis in order to survive as a regional production company in an increasingly London-centric working environment. The majority of our work includes large elements of interactivity, with a core content of animation and high definition live action hybrid stuff. Pangaea has an enviable client base for a small organization working with international blue chip’s, leading advertising agencies, and broadcasters producing popular media from music promo’s to short films and commercials, for clients including Warner Bros, EMI and Aviva.
I have a good working knowledge of creative content: print, online, music, film and commercials incorporating multiple media fields into single projects. Additionally I can offer a distinctly different viewpoint than that of the London based media community; which may or may not be important any more.
Cheers, Karl Lear

I wish to join 4IP’s Think Tank to help guide public service media. I am excited about 4IP’s potential because I love informative, entertaining, provocative media productions and I am intrigued about the possibilities digital platforms offer over traditional broadcast.
To 4IP I would bring a wealth of new media, digital production, training and consultancy experience. I am a passionately enthusiastic creative thinker, innovator, hard-worker and love new/digital/social media.
I have run my new media production and consultancy company, Inner Ear (http://www.innerear.co.uk), since 2000. We produce the popular, respected internet radio station Radio Magnetic (http://www.radiomagnetic.com), which we have revitalised recently to utilise social media, web 2.0 tools.
Working for organisations like Urban Learning Space and Scottish Enterprise, I have designed programme-making, podcast production and streaming media training courses and workshops for young people from social inclusion areas. I devise and run seminars on the use of digital media in communications and, last year, delivered a six-month business development programme utilising podcasting, within the context of web 2.0, for 4Talent.
My current work focuses on strategic implementation of digital media products in marketing and business development for various clients, including Scottish Arts Council, Nick Nairn Cook School, 4Talent, brands and agencies.

Hi I’m currently involved in relaunching the UK’s longest running digital local/community TV service, Channel 7. We broadcast on the Virgin Media platform to 140,000 homes in North and North East Lincolnshire. We are unique in the UK and run our Community Interest Company from purpose built studios near Grimsby. We have an exciting model for the future of micro TV which can run as a sustainable commercial enterprise. We are partnered with the only Skillset Media Academy in Yorkshire and the Humber and sit alongside colleagues from propellertv on Sky 195. We are an experienced and multi-skilled team developing our systems to suit delivery of local TV. We are about investigating new ways of delivering local TV in an ever decreasing market place with brave, innovative and creative thinking. Our partners are in both private and public sector but we welcome help and advice from those who are interested in protecting local provision by providing new solutions to content creation and distribution. Look forward to hearing from you.......

Hello there,
We (Affixxius Productions) are a fully in house team of video production specialists, all under 25 and several of us went to the same schools and colleges. We have recently won the Young entrepreneur of the year award 2008 (currently under press embargo still) and collectively love the whole idea of what this project is about!
We are constantly innovating and altering our approach to new media, and do a range of media disciplines in house, ranging from bespoke music production, graphic design, flash and high definition video production- to enhanced web applications and systems that challenge how we currently approach media, training and interaction.
Feel free to contact me on any issue,
Many Thanks
HARRY

As the Webcaster of the Channel 4 Learning commission, slabovia.tv, I have experience within a new digital department (Tern Digital) of a traditional television production company (Tern TV Ltd). I therefore, fully appreciate the practical impact multi-platform and new distribution channels have on the established media.
Before Tern Digital, I was the New Media Producer at Inner Ear Ltd. I joined the company as Communications & Licensing Manager of RadioMagnetic.com, part-time while studying Film and Media at the University of Stirling. I used my experience as a case study for my dissertation,’ Is Podcasting The Future of Internet Radio?’. Once graduated I committed full time to Inner Ear Ltd. Working alongside Managing Director Dougal Perman, we drove the focus from live streaming to on demand programming, specialising in podcast production for third party clients. I therefore, understand the commercial opportunities new media technologies have brought to small creative companies, and the technicalities of new media production and distribution.
I am currently freelance and have been recently shortlisted for the 4Talent Award in the Multi-platform category; making me one of the Top 100 creatives in the UK under the age of 30, and one of the Top 5 specialising multi-platform.
